Hair Growth Procedure

This Hair Growth procedure is from Barcelona, Spain, and started commercially in the year 2014. More than 30,000 were performed worldwide on Androgenetic Alopecia, wound healing, diabetic ulcers, and vitiligo.

This has zero downtime, no side effects (autologous = depends on patient’s cell regenerative ability), no extra chemicals introduced, Homologous (cells extracted are differentiated cells, meant to grow hair).

How is the procedure done?

  • Takes about 30mins

  • About a 10-cent coin-sized area is shaved at the nape area for a biopsy to be taken

  • 3-4 biopsy samples of skin are taken painlessly from the nape area (no stitching needed as each biopsy is small at 2.5mm)

Skin samples contain

  • Extracellular matrix (ECM): guides cell division, growth, and development. In other words, the extracellular matrix largely determines how a tissue looks and functions. Progenitor cells (differentiated cells meant to grow hair)

  • Growth factors (protein alpha-granules)

  • Stromal vascular cells (fat tissue for regenerative purposes)

  • Extracted cells are being processed into about 50-60 micron-sized (the ideal size for hair growth) via machine into micrografts

  • Micrografts are then reinjected back into thinning areas of the scalp

AUTOLOGOUS USE HOMOLOGOUS TISSUE ONE SURGICAL TIME

What benefit does it give?

  • Androgenetic Alopecia

  • Non-scarring alopecia: most frequent; affects men and women; hair follicles are not destroyed; response to hair-loss treatments.

  • Some are reversible.

  • Male (Escala de Hamilton-Norwood scale 1-3)

  • Female (Ludwig scale1 & 2)

Suitable for:

  • Stimulate inactive hair follicles to grow more hair

  • Provide a healthy environment for hair growth

  • Regenerate healthy cells for hair growth via angiogenesis for the development of new blood vessels

  • Stromal vascular cells (fat tissue) for regenerative activity

Not suitable for:

  • Other types of hair loss except for Androgenetic Alopecia (e.g. Lichen Planopillaris, Tricho-Tillomania, Alopecia Acreta

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Fever or infectious/ inflammatory / dermatosis scalp conditions

  • Scarring alopecia (irreversible; hair follicles are destroyed)

  • Allergy to Lidocaine

  • On long term anticoagulant/ blood-thinning medications

  • Cancer and autoimmune diseases

  • Had prior surgery with deep scars on the scalp
